The Champions League tie between Sevilla and Manchester United is still up in the air after the two played to a 0-0 draw in the first leg. The second leg will be played in Manchester on March 13th, and it has the chance to be another close game.
What To Know About Sevilla
Sevilla should feel unfortunate to have come away from their home match with a scoreless draw in the first leg as they had 57% of the ball, along with 25 shots, although only eight of those were on target. Sevilla also took 12 corner kicks and forced 22 fouls out of Manchester United as they peppered the opposition’s goal with chances, led by Muriel, who would have out Sevilla ahead at the end of the first half if not for a wonderful save from David De Gea. Joaquin Correa did whatever he wanted down the left side of the field, while Steven N’Zonzi also had a good chance saved by De Gea. It was a bit worrying, however, how Sevilla tired near the end of the game and almost got beaten a couple of times on the counterattack. It’ll be interesting to see how they line up in Manchester, where United will probably be a little more offensive-minded then they were in Spain.
What To Know About Manchester United
De Gea was the star of the show for United as he gave his team a chance to go home with a clean sheet. Paul Pogba was left on the bench and came on early after Ander Herrera was injured, but he didn’t doo much. In fact, United didn’t look like scoring until they replaced Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford after 75 minutes or so, and their pace really terrified the Sevilla defence. Romelu Lukaku didn’t get much service throughout the game, and he had a late goal correctly disallowed because of a handball. It wasn’t a great performance from Manchester United at all, but thanks to De Gea, they are the favorites in the second leg at home. Still, they need to play much, much better.
Outlook
United are favored at home at -150 in this match, while Sevilla are listed at +425 and a draw comes in at +260. Like Sevilla, it’ll be interesting to see how Manchester United comes out for this match and they should stick with a midfield trio to free up Pogba, who was getting over an illness in the first leg, but he should be better at home in the second leg. Also, they’ll need all the offensive-minded players they can get on the field as Sevilla will likely sit back and defend a little more than they did at home. The schedule is tough for both leading up to this game as Sevilla has two league matches in Spain against Valencia (whom they trail in the table) and at Leganes. Manchester United will host their rivals from Liverpool in the league before Sevilla, then they host Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup. However, both teams will have their very best on the pitch in Manchester on March 13th.
