The next edition of UFC Fight Night comes this weekend as they take their mixed martial arts series to Singapore on Saturday. The headline bout of the night will feature Holly Holm as she tries to end her losing streak against Bethe Correia. Holm, of course, shocked the world when she knocked out Ronda Rousey but she hasn’t been able to notch another win since then. Here is a preview of the main card for UFC Fight Night: Holm vs Correia.
Holm vs Correia
The main event comes from the women’s bantamweight division as former champion Holly Holm (10-3) and Bethe Correia (10-2-1), both of whom really need a win. Holm stunned Ronda Rousey to win the title in November 2015, then lost it to Miesha Tate in March 2016, then was strangely dominated by Valentina Shevchenko in July of last year, and then lost a controversial decision to Germaine de Randamie in February for the featherweight title. Correia was routed by Rousey in August 2015, then lost a split decision to Raquel Pennington in April 2016, won a split over Jessica Eye in September 2016 and then had a majority draw with Marion Reneau in March. Holm wants a title shot if she beats Correia, who also wants a shot, but Holm is more likely to get one, although current champion Amanda Nunes fights Shevchenko in July in a rematch for the belt. This fight will be a battle of Holm’s ability to keep Correia at bay, and Correia trying to get inside on Holm.
Arlovski vs Tybura
Andrei Arlovski (25-14-1), a former UFC heavyweight champion had a surprising six-fight win streak going, and his name was brought up for a title shot. Since then, Arlovski has lost four in a row, all by stoppage and three of them have come by TKO. He’ll take on Marcin Tybura (15-2), who is a very well-rounded fighter with seven TKO/KO wins and six submission wins, while Arlovski is even more of a knockout hunter than he ever was (and he always has been, basically). Furthermore, Arlovski has never had a great chin, and it is even worse now. He could land a big punch, but Arlovski will be in tough in this match against Tybura, who could head to the top 10 with a win in Singapore.
Dos Anjos vs Saffiedine
The third match to keep an eye on comes from the welterweight division, which has a newcomer, although he is very familiar to UFC fans. Former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (25-9) lost the belt to Eddie Alvarez in July 2016, when it was revealed that he had a very tough weight cut, and then he lost to Tony Ferguson in his next match in November. Dos Anjos makes his welterweight debut in Singapore against Tarec Saffiedine (16-6), the former Strikerforce champion who has lost three of his last four, but is still hanging around the outside of the top 10. It’ll be interesting to see if Dos Anjos loses any speed moving up to 170 pounds, but one thing is for sure: he should be more powerful in this division, and he was a huge puncher as a lightweight. He is also a better grappler than he is giving credit for, which is bad news for Saffiedine as that might be his best chance to win this match.
