What to expect on the circuit of Monaco?
The clash between the two titans of Formula 1 under the hot Spanish sun is behind. Hamilton reduced gap winning in Barcelona, but Vettel still has 6 points advantage in the overall standings. Seems that the fight for the Championship will be between them.
We all know that it is almost impossible to overtake on the Monaco streets. Therefore, attention will be focused on the qualification, where drivers will show the best they can to get pole position on the start line.
We are almost sure that in Monaco there will be no surprises, however, as always. But, perhaps, the main surprise will be the return of Jenson Button, the backup pilot of McLaren Team. He will replace Alonso while he tries to win “500 miles of Indianapolis” to get closer to his Triple Crown which consists also with Grand Prix Monaco and 24h Les Mans
The unique Monaco circuit has not changed much since the first Grand Prix in 1950. Grand Prix Monaco win turns good pilots into legendary ones.
A short lap of 3,339 km along the streets of the city practically does not have straight sections. The race circuit has many elevation shifts, tight corners and is narrow. Due to the tight and twisty nature of the circuit, drivers’ skill is more important than the power of the cars. Only the best drivers will be on the podium on Sunday, May 28. Even the start and finish line isn’t straight here and has the shape of a banana!
What to expect from drivers at the Monaco Grand Prix?
As always, before a race, the drivers share with their expectations from this Grand Prix. So, Button is very happy to come and take part in this Grand Prix. He believes that any driver dreams to get a chance to show his skill on this wonderful circuit. Surprisingly, Jenson doesn’t not practice in Bahrain, but on a racing simulator. He says that after only 5 laps he realized that he could perform on a new car, understood how to direct it, remembered how to work with pedals. Seems, it’s just impossible to lose these skills.
Although no one is betting on the victory of the Red Bull drivers, Riccardo and Verstappen have high hopes on Monaco.
Riccardo calls this circuit his favorite but at the same time the narrowest and most frightening. It often seems that such narrow parts, of course, can not be passed at high speed, but still drivers do it, and this is an unforgettable experience. 2016 was disappointing for Riccardo because the team had big chance to win. This year, drivers hope to catch it up.
For Verstappen, the Grand Prix will become special, because he has been living here already 2 years. He says he enjoys every minute in Monaco, and especially he likes to practice under the Mediterranean sun.
Verstappen believes that there are no unrisked laps on the Monaco circuit, especially if you want to be fast. You always have to go to the limit. Last year’s failure arouses a desire to retrieve that defeat this year, and not to repeat the mistakes.
Particular attention Verstappen gives to the configuration of the car because there is still something to work on. New cars are developing, and it is not possible to test them. It is important to find the limit very carefully. The most difficult place the drivers says is the chicane near “pool”. Well, let’s see how he copes with this.
Hamilton said that this year he enjoys a competition with Vettel. Calling this rivalry one of the best in his entire career. In this case, Hamilton believes that it is in a much better position than last year.
Prediction:
The main favorites in Monaco on May 28, as well as the Grand Prix of Spain, remain Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. The third, but with a significant margin, again goes to Valtteri Bottas.
