Tottenham has a big week coming up as they have a huge second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie with Juventus on Wednesday. Then on Sunday, they’ll head out on the road in the English Premier League to take on Bournemouth, who are trying desperately to stay out of the relegation battle.
What To Know About Tottenham
Spurs are fourth in the table on 58 points after a 2-0 win at home over Huddersfield Town as Son Heung-Min scored twice. Heung-Min has now netted four goals in his last two games and that is good news for Spurs as they haven’t been getting much from Dele Alli, who hasn’t scored since January 2nd. He does have three assists in his last five games, but Tottenham needs a little bit more from the talented 21-year-old midfielder. Spurs are in pole position to land one of the four Champions League spots for next season as they have a five-point lead over Chelsea, whom they still have to visit on April 1st. But you have to wonder if the Champions League will take a toll on Tottenham, who had to battle back from two goals down to tie Juventus on the road in the first leg and now host them this week. Fortunately, Chelsea are dealing with the same thing (they visit Barcelona in their Champions League tie). One interesting story for Tottenham centers on defendeer Toby Alderweireld, who has struggled with a hamstring injury. However, there are rumors that Tottenham are willing to sell him because of a contract dispute and that threatens to be a distraction to their season.
What To Know About Bournemouth
Bournemouth are 12th in the table on 33 points after a 1-1 draw at Leicester City in which Joshua King scored from the penalty spot in the 35th minute. However, Bournemouth gave up a goal late in second-half injury time to drop two vital points as they’re only six points ahead of Crystal Palace, who are in 18th place. Bournemouth has been playing well as of late with four wins, five draws and a loss in their last ten league matches, but they do have an issue scoring goals as most of the smaller clubs do; they have found the back of the net just 34 times this season. They’re missing one of their most creative players in Jordan Ibe, who has a hamstring problem and won’t be back for this match, if not for a while.
Outlook
Tottenham are favored at -188 on the road, while Bournemouth comes in at +550 and a draw is listed at +300. These two have met five times in the league and Spurs have won four and drawn one, including a 1-0 win at home in October as Christian Eriksen gave Spurs their first league win at Wembley Stadium. They are far more comfortable at Wembley now, but Spurs have a tough game ahead of them on Wednesday and Bournemouth will be hoping to catch a tired team by the time Sunday rolls around. That gives them a chance to pick up a point on the road.
