The World Cup in Russia is just around the corner as it begins this summer. Here is a look at four teams that you might want to consider laying a little on; if a few breaks go their way, you could make some big money.
Portugal
Odds To Win 2018 World Cup: 23.00
Portugal comes into the World Cup at +2300, and they’re in Group B with Spain, Morocco and Iran, so they should make it through to the next round. They won Euro 2016 and while they’re still powered by Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal has some good young players coming up, like Andre and Bernardo Silva (no relation). If their defense can avoid a few major mistakes (here is looking at you, Pepe, who is always on the verge of a red card), Portugal can make some noise, especially if they manage to beat Spain and win the top seed in their group.
Uruguay
Odds To Win 2018 World Cup: 26.00
Uruguay is also rated at +2600 and are in a group with hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. They have the talent to win that group and they have an incredible strike pairing in Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, when both are on their game that is. However, they can be inconsistent and Uruguay can’t have that in Russia. If nothing else, Uruguay will take experience to Russia, but the group of Cristian Rodriguez in midfield, and Maxi Pereira and Diego Godin have shown signs of decline. If they can give their all for this tournament (likely the final major tournament for this group), then Uruguay can make it to the final if they get a break or two.
Croatia
Odds To Win 2018 World Cup: 36.00
Croatia is rated at +3600 and will be grouped with Argentina, Iceland and Nigeria, so they might find it tough just to get out of their group. However, they should because Croatia has one of the most outstanding midfields in the World Cup as Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Ivan Perisic are all playing well for their respective clubs, and they can control a game. However, Mari Mandzukic needs some help up front in terms of scoring goals to get Croatia to the next round. If they can get out of the group, teams should beware of Croatia.
Poland
Odds To Win 2018 World Cup: 36.00
Poland is another team rated at +3600 and they’re grouped with Senegal, Colombia and Japan. They have one of the very best strikers in the world in Robert Lewandowski, and he can be the difference between a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 win. Poland has some solid, if not spectacular, players behind him. Midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak has to step up and lead the way, while the defense has a few questions, mainly, who will start in goal? Artur Boruc has the most appearances of the trio, but Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny might be better options. If one of those players and make the #1 shirt their own and Lewandowski gets some help in the offensive end, Poland is going to be a tough out in Russia next summer.
