Liverpool and Sevilla are atop Group E in the Champions League, with Liverpool on eight points and Sevilla on seven. The two will meet in Spain on Matchday 6, which is on November 21st.
What To Know About Liverpool
Liverpool struggled to open up NK Maribor at home in their last Champions League game, but they eventually found a way through in the second half and won 3-0. Mohamed Salah got the ball rolling in the 49th minute, and then Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge made sure that Liverpool would take all three points. Liverpool has won two and drawn two of their first four Champions League games, scoring 13 goals and allowing three, and Salaha has been great so far with four goals and four games, while Roberto Firmino has scored three. However, Liverpool has a lot of injury worries right now, so they’ll be hoping that clears up by the time they have to head to Spain.
What To Know About Sevilla
Sevilla kept pace with Liverpool with a big 2-1 win at home over Spartak Moscow as they got goals from Clement Lenglet and Ever Banega, although they allowed a goal in the 78th minute that made things more interesting than they needed to be. It was good that Sevilla found a way to score without Wissam Ben Yedder getting on the scoresheet as he has four of Sevilla’s eight goals so far in the Champions League, while four players have scored one. Sevilla has to be a little better on the defensive end as well as they have allowed eight goals. Seven of those goals have come away from home, but that isn’t good for the goal difference as they’re at even, while Spartak Moscow has a goal difference of +3. If it comes down to a tie on points, that makes things quite nervous for Sevilla.
Outlook
Sevilla will be favored at home at +140, while Liverpool comes in at +200 and a draw is rated at +220. This will be the third time that these two teams will meet as Sevilla beat Liverpool 3-1 in the Europa League final in 2016, and they managed to pick up a point in a 2-2 draw at Liverpool in September. Firmino and Salah scored for Liverpool, while Ben Yedder and Joaquin Correa responded for Sevilla, who didn’t look overwhelmed in England and they have been much better at home. There is a lot at stake as Liverpool will look for a point that will basically put them through to the next round, but both teams will have one eye on the other Group E game as Spartak Moscow will host NK Maribor, and they should assume that is a win for Spartak Moscow. That tightens things at the top of the group, so three points would go a long way for either team. Neither team can really afford to sit back and play cautiously, and neither defense has been very good this season, so this should be a very exciting game.
